My 2019 Disco 5 makes a series of thuds (usually 2-4) which sound and feel like they are coming from the transmission. It usually occurs shortly after standing overnight in slow moving traffic on a slight uphill incline. After that it can be intermittent with an occasional judder feel, usually at slow speed with light acceleration.
I have tried to eliminate the gearbox by holding the car in 1st on the tiptronic and the thudding still occurs.
The local LR dealing has been unable to hear the noise even after leaving for test drives overnight, but then I feel it as soon as I drive out of the carpark.
It only has 25k miles on the clock. Have suggested flushing the transfer and gearbox box but that’s expensive unless know the cause. Others have suggested the automatic parking brake but it’s a clear thud rather than a screech.
Any other suggestions for me?

Hi and welcome

It's a land rover, is supposed to make concerning noises, is just some are more expensive than others!

If you want to get rid of the most, suggest you ask in the disco section where you'll get a better audience :)

Trapped cyclist getting your attention o_O

Remember to keep your distance when passing a cyclist.

Normally it is parked on a flat surface so I don't turn it on manually, but I believe the parking brake is automatic so its always on when stopped.

Google disco3 forum, as the guy who runs it {Martin} also has a specific D5 site, really useful info on the more up to date cars.

Hi! I feel like it might not help you at all, as there are possibly so many large differences between your Disco and mine (mostly about 30 years! :D)...

However, every symptom you describe (I mean, down to the last detail!) I had with mine, which turned out to all be propshaft related. UJ's on my front prop were knackered and the coupling between the rear prop and rear diff had also warn. i replaced them and it drives like a dream. No clunks or judders, all smooth

As you have a disco 5 this may not even be relevant, but hey, felt worth putting in here.

D5 do not have props, they are full bluetooth:D

An update on this investigation. I had all oil levels, bushings and cv joints checked and nothing found. Demonstrated it to local LR dealer (clunk clunk driving slow up hill turning slightly left or right). Current thought is that it is one of the e-diffs slipping but they will need further investigation to determine which one as it has both centre and rear e-diffs.

will update this issue when have more details from LR.

Finally fixed. Changed oil (dealer said it was dirty, only 25k miles!) in front and rear differentials and transfer case. Total cost £600! I'm sure it would be less than half if used a non-LR dealer.
