Having just bought a mint 2020 Disco 3.0 30k miles commercial version / converted .... either pay tax or drive this...
Is it a bad idea for me to read through what problems i could encounter on this forum?
If i keep reading , i will end up watching the dash for warning lights !

I have no faults at all with it and find it`s the best vehicle iv`e ever had.
Maybe members are only on here when there is a problem so it seems magnified!

Well, i`m for one can say , it`s a brilliant bit of kit, i now drive sensibly ,calmly, observing all the hot headed hatch back jockeys scooting around me.
 
I would say you can count on the fingers of one maybe two hands people on her who own a d5.

Check out the d3forum as they have a dedicated d4 and d5 section, good forum plenty of regular posts etc, some posters are kind of stuck up their own arse, but you soon get to figure out who they are, plenty of genuine knowledgable posters as well, with some real useful technical advise.
 
If you plan on driving it decent distances on most journeys, I'd say you'll be OK - early, maybe six-monthly oil changes with the correct specification and grade of oil will help. Diesels - of any marque, suffer with lots of low energy, low temperature and short duration journeys, for those, you'd be better off with a petrol engine.

You will not be paranoid just pre-warned, if you have or can get a warranty that you can extend I would think it would be a good idea. IF you really want to scare your self watch this
Hope all goes well with it, they are great cars wish tax man here would let me have one instead of taking the lot :eek:

Bear in mind they present a heavy dose of opinion dressed up as 'entertainment', not always reflected in reality outside of their own curated experiences.
I would agree with that but the TD6 engine does seem to have more than its fair share of big problems with lower end of engine
 
TDV6 / SDV6 - TD6 is a different powerplant altogether - yes, there are issues, not least due to historical design compromises in the 'Lion' range due to PSAs insistence on dimensions - there are similar (but not always as catastrophic) design & longevity issues across other manufacturers including VWG & Mercedes, the biggest killer though (IMO) is the imposition of punitive & largely pointless emission controls on earlier designs that were not envisaged at the start of the design or engineering development cycle.
There are also a hell of a lot of TDV6 2.7l & 3.0l vehicles with EU3-6 emissions standards that go on to do serious distances with no issues, When I worked in a LR dealership, we had HA vehicles (Disco 4's & 5's) in for service, the highest mileage I saw was 335,000 IIRC - might have been 365,000 but it was in that range, they were generally retired around 350/360k. We never had any in for engine issues other than ancillary parts.

Yes , that`s the problem with me, 10 miles in the morning , 10 miles in the evening , every day.
The odd 40min trip weekends.
Probably a DPF problem will be coming along!
 
As long as they're not stop-start traffic and on 40-50mph roads, you should be OK - if you get the amber DPF warning on the dash, keep driving until it goes off, then another 20 minutes. The 'almost full' warning goes off at 22g/m3, ideally you want a regen to get down to 4-7g/m3 so it'll be a while before it attempts again, with the benefit of less oil dilution.

DPF's only become a problem if you ignore the warning messages.

Thanks, now i will know what to do! I had a Fiesta 1.5 td ,2020 , 22k , engine light came on , scanned it , broken dpf .
No warning of how to fix it. Also i did notice the engine oil increasing up the dipstick, i had to keep changing it.
With this disco it seems that i may have a warning to fix it , now i can do something about it before it goes bust.:)
