Hi guys so im looking to go pick up my 3rd discovery. However this one has had all the off roading goodies put on it.
Theres a problem tho the guys said the speedo cable needs replacin. The car has a 2" suspension lift and a 2" body lift now is it extra distance the speedo cable will have to travel which is why it needs replacing?
Its got no mot either so will that affect the mot? If not im hapoy to run a tom tom to give me my speed?!

Hi

my speedo stopped and i thought cable................but local supplier told me it was not a cable and sold me a thing called a transducer ,i think.
It fits on the side of gearbox, bit fiddly to do need a socket(cant remember size sorry) with an extension bar to reach, i used a small 3/8 socket and bar handle cause being thin made it ideal.

Solved speedo prob. i think it would fail mot cause your mileage wont be registering.

Hope this helps

Gax

Shouldnt fail an mot as the wont go fast enough to register a speed.mine did the same it is a connector on the gear box.speed sensor bout 30 od quid it cost n say hour to fit.dont go mad on the bolts tho coz they snap and ur fcukd.so be careful.

Ok cool i just didnt know if it was the extra 2" between the dashboard and the g/box that made it go faulty. But if its just that i might be a tight ass and go the local scrappy should be able to fit it in my pocket :-D
Thanks for replys

How did you get on?
I've got the same problem. All suggestions point to the transduicer on mine, just waiting on the weather to stop.
I've bought a new transduicer £39, speedo cable and o-ring on ebay.
I've been told the transduicer is one allen bolt, on the side of the gearbox. I'll repost how i get on, but if you fixed it would be great for some tips?
I've also heard it is a big deal if your miles aren't registering.
It also kinda sucks if you sell it and have done a bazillion miles but still reading 117k :)

It is one just one bolt fixing but u won't find a transducer on the gearbox, it's high on the transfer box behind the brake-drum.

My speedo randomly jumps around, stops for a few miles and then comes back on, I am assuming thats a loose connection? Only really started to do it after we changed the clutch.

I am waiting on the rain to stop then plan is to change the speed transduicer and speedo cable on my fathers today. It completely stopped working and the odometer has stopped counting. Yours might just be a loose connection? I'll let you know how i get on today.
