Hi guys.

I bought the truck for £850 after asking a mate if she knew of anyone selling one. Had a hop over to look at it, took it for a drive. All seemed well so bought it there and then. Picked it up a week later, drove to work the next day (55miles) and it started over heating on the motorway then majorly over heated on the way back.
Phoned the seller he said to take the thermostat out. Which didn't solve anything. So it camped on the A16 for a few days until my girlfriend could tow it with her Vitara. Took it to famous4 in Louth. Where it had a new head, head gasket and loads of other stuff costing me £816. Since then it has been fine. Just needs the brakes and some other stuff doing which is being ordered and fitted on the 15th.

So that is it up to now.

As it stands the truck is,

Good bits:

- 4 turning wheels,
- New head, ect...
- New sills (box section),
- working lights,
- 11month MOT

Bad bits (better get a brew for this):

- Tank strap rusted and snapped (ordered)
- 6inch hole in the chassis under the drivers seat,
- Transfer box stuck (no diff lock)
- Both front inner arches need patching,
- No lights in the centre consol,
- No back box (smashed it off messing around trying to drive up a slag heap at work)
- Brakes (it does stop eventually) but all the bits are ordered,
- Bent front bumper D/S (mother crashed it in to a ditch),
- Sun roof leaking,
- Head liner is a bit tatty,
- Bit of a groaning when steering at slow speeds,

Probably loads more I can't remember.

So my ideas for it are:

- Repair/Replace anything that needs doing,
- Black out the rear windows (all my gear for work is in there),
- Poly bush kit all round,
- 2inch lift,
- Light bar, ect...
- New comfy seat in the front,
- Winch,
- Proper tyres,
- Roll cage,
- Possible respray,
- Sort the back for Discamping,
- Get it muddy,

I work as a Fabricator/Welder/Fitter, so any welding or anything like that I can do myself. It is the tetchy bits that I'd rather pay someone else to do.
So there we have it. I'll post some pictures when I can upload them.

Cheers
Mark

We'll she has a Vitara so knows the difference.

Just found a new problem on the way to the shop.

When indicating the towing light comes on once, then goes off. But with the hazards it flashes.

This is the same with the Wendy's Vitara. But that has the 4x4 light, which comes on with anything else and doing the window up kills the radio too.

I'm not an electrical sort of person. So please help with this. Or it will be put on the list at Famous 4 Louth.

Right tried to make some progress on the Disco.

After a bit more messing about today. I noticed that the spare wheel hanger was wobeing a bit and could do with being taken off, repaired and powder coated.

Whilst cooking tea, i thought i'd just take the spare wheel off, pop off the back door card and remove the hanger.

WRONG!!!!,

Broken all the clips on the door card, and had to chisle off the crome caps. Then hammer on a 27mm socket and use a scaffold tube to get the bloody things to come off. All at 9pm outside my sisters, because mine are on site. Which ****ed off her nieghbours something cronic.

I'll post some pics tomorrow.

But my question is:

Why is nothing ever easy on a loddy land rover???

The towing light always flashes once on mine without a trailer on, then it constantly flashes with a trailer connected to let you know the lights are working, what your seeing is normal

My 200tdi always had the single flash of the trailer light, the current 300 doesn't, the 200 had a bates towbar, this one has a genuine LR one so I suspect it may be down the way things are wired in.

Think i've found the problem with mine. The white socket is hanging off. And i took my nephew (4yo) through a pretty deep ford yesterday, so thing water has got into it.
The white socket is for fridge, battery charging etc so shouldn't have anything to do with the lighting circuit

Thankyou for sorting that out. Since i've had it, i've been thinking that the deli at work has been putting booze in my cups of tea, causing double vision eveytime i indicate.

Right next question.

The bottom of the back door skin is coming off, obviously it needs sorting. Am i right in thinking it is steel frame with alu skin?

If so has anyone had this problem befor?
How did you fix it?

Cheers
Mark

Edit:

Can anyone tell me what makes are best for:

Full polybust kit -
2inch suspension lift -
X brake(?) -
EGR block off -
Sicilone hoses -
Window tints -

My phone is seriously screwing up so can't tell which pic is which. But one thing i've seen tonight is, do i need a new steering damper? Looks ( on one of the pics) that there is a hole in it.

Asked my dad to make me a new wheel hanger at work, because i am too busy right now. Don't think that this one will rust.

Fully aluminium with a plate behind to hold the studs in place.
