Hi all,

Apologies if this query has been posted before and I missed it.

Need some advice regrding my Disco - N plate 300 TDi with a paltry 90000 miles on the clock - nearly everything is original replaced all the original tyres about 5000 miles ago and a new exhaust fitted at the same time, only mention this to show that the previous owners had obviously, to a certain degree, treated the wagon with a lot of care.

My problems at the moment are several fold as listed below

1) drivers seat seems to have collapsed so I seem to spend most of my time hoisting myself back into a comfortable position - have been told it could be the diapraghm (sp?) does this sound likely and is ti easy to rectify?

2) When lifting off at speed (ie 40+) the wagon pulls hard the tyres to the left - as already mentioned the tyres are all new, balanced nicely and holding pressure well

3) At lower speeds when over-running there is a squealing noise from somewhere at the front of the wagon - have checked tensions on all the belts and these seem fine

4) Have just done a longish run (100+ miles) on motorway and again in over-run there is a deep low graunching noise sounds like a bearing but have checked and they seem ok (surely the noise would be there all the time if it was a bearing). the noise got progressively worse on the journey and had to stop short of my destination to check all was ok - no hubs hot or anything obvious.

Apologies if I have broken any forum rules (either explicit or implicit) just want to get the wagon back and rolling well

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

I would jack up each wheel in turn and check for play and make sure there are no sticking brakes etc. I would also check my propshafts for play or damage in the universal joints. Make sure the disco is on level ground when you jack it up and be sure to use the wheel chock as your handbrake won't work when the wheels are off the ground. Read the handbook if you've got one.

My problems at the moment are several fold as listed below

1) drivers seat seems to have collapsed so I seem to spend most of my time hoisting myself back into a comfortable position - have been told it could be the diapraghm (sp?) does this sound likely and is it easy to rectify? This is very common and easy to rectify - you need to take the seat out of the car.

2) When lifting off at speed (ie 40+) the wagon pulls hard the tyres to the left - as already mentioned the tyres are all new, balanced nicely and holding pressure well. Ok, the likely culprits are:worn bushes in the tie rods that hold the rear axle in place, bushes in the panhard rod, bushes in the front hockey sticks. Resolved with a full new bush kit, about £50

3) At lower speeds when over-running there is a squealing noise from somewhere at the front of the wagon - have checked tensions on all the belts and these seem fine. Check the oil levels in the axles, main gearbox and transfer box - if any doubts replace the lot. Check the propshafts for wear in the U/j's and grease all the nipples.
