hi i have a 1996 disco 300 tdi auto with edc, i hav now owned it a month, what i liked about it when i got was how lively it was, touch the throttle and your off, but the last few days its devolped a delay where there is a pause when pulling away, and power seems to be suffering slightly because of it, as its electronic does anyone have any ideas as to what it may be, because it spoils the experience somewhat especialy when pulling away from traffic lights etc????

 I think all tdi auto,s do that. They pull away slowly untill turbo kicks in at about 2000 revs , then they start to accelerate pretty quick [for a two ton brick] If it seems slower than before try changing fuel filter/air filter.I might add if you want something that pulls away from traffic lights quickly by a sports car.Driving a tdi auto like that will just burn loads more of your precious fuel!

thanks for that but they should pull away on the diesel supplied first before boost and then when boost comes on it will get more diesel for load, it was perfect before, the pause is like its not getting fuel for a split second and then it will pick up and go, i have changed the air filter, fuel filter is next, i dont expect it to be quick away from stand still but i do expext it to move?

Hi tractorboy, just thought of other things to check.

Whilst parked and with the engine ticking over, very very slowly start to depress the accelerator paedal and listen carefully to the engine.

Do the revs start to rise straight away?? If yes, that would eliminate the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS).

If there is any delay in fuel getting through, then starting off would show it up. Therefore, renew the fuel filter, check and clean the fuel sedimetor and check the function of the fuel lift pump.
