I just wanted to know if they are worth buying? I have fallen in love with this particular car but wanted to be sensible before i go for it.

Hi and welcome

Plus 1 ref taking someone with u if ur not sure

I’ve done a guide which hopefullly will help

https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/buyers-guide.312800/

May i ask what there asking for it plse as some garages ask silly money

If u wish to put the reg or advert up can easily see all its history

Main things are belts and oil pump cover

I’ve had mine 2 x years and my favourite so far , but must be bought with care

Yes my husband knows a reasonable amount. He owned a defender 110 dico 2 and now has a 110 pick up. Its a 2 hour drive. Obviously im really kean but he asked me to look on here for common faults ect before we drive down to look and hopefully purchase.

That’s great ur hubby has mechanical knowledge

Have a look at my buyers guide which tells u what to look out for

Plenty here to help u have any questions

I dont know how to send the link but here is a screen shot. Its just shy of 7k. Thankyou i will look through your buyers guide.
I did a little research last night and the 2 things you said were the main. things that came up.
It all seems relativly positive. Obviously it all boils down to how well its been maintained and looked after. I just want to go into this with my eyes open

Theres no two ways about it, great cars, but like all once expensive cars they can still be expensive when/if they go wrong.

Noting your location and as your man knows defenders, tell him to pay special attention to the bottom of the sills where the inner meets the outer, then set suspension to max height (doors closed to get it to work) then shine a torch over the rear tyres and take a look at the rigid brake pipes, DO NOT poke your head into the wheel arch, not once not quickly not ever!

The 2005/2006 cars tend to be very good motors and normally quite high spec compared to later ones of the exact same model ie XS/HSE etc.

Hi

Many thks for the link

If it also helps have a look in the D3 forum, as u then at least know they’ve been looked after and priced accordingly

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/fs-d...f86.html?sid=f7f0372dbfa36941145f7b3ed7780363

Plus 1 what @lynall mentions ref the sills, seems to also become a water trap if side steps are fitted , indeed the warning of never getting underneath it, suspension can and does adjust without warning , must always use axle stands regardless if engine is on or off , vehicle wakes up every 6 x hours to self level

Plse let us know how u get on and indeed the D3 forum has an extensive amount of infomation

Only downside is it’s manual, auto in a D3 is just better, also front wishbones take a pounding, and brake discs/ pads, electric handbrake are seperate shoes inside the rear discs, which on a manual gets used a lot

Hi

Indeed ur spot on ref an auto, so much nicer to drive , particularly in traffic

Funny enough I hardly use the EPB , just leave it in park

Believe u should get a good 40-50,000 miles out of bushes/ pads, alas as we all know depends what quality of parts have been fitted

Saw a few threads where some had fitted britpart drop links and after a few 1,000 mile they snapped, personally fitted the HD meyle on mine

I'd suggest that you include proper diagnostics in your purchase :) ... will save you a blinking fortune both in time and money - If you get diagnostics first, you can even plug it in to any prospective purchases to check for historic fault codes .... ;)
