Hi, i have recently bought an 05 Disco 3 with 67k miles.
I had initally noticed a slight squeal from the front wheels (I think) when I turned the wheel slightly from centre while travelling at motor way speeds. I have now started noticing this noise more frequently mainly at speeds greater than 50mph. Car is still under garage warrantly bought I would appreciate any thoughts/guidance on what it might be to help me better decribe.
Many thanks

Its more likely to be coming from the rear, D3's have known problems with the electric handbrake system, get it sorted sooner than later because if it siezes up it can/ will be expensive to repair

Often this light squealing noise is caused by a slightly sticking brake caliper piston, and a tiny amount of free play in a wheel bearing.

These two things combine when you "turn the wheel slightly from centre while travelling at motor way speeds" to allow the brake disc lightly to rub on a pad, and set up the squealing noise.

You can find out by doing this - take it for a run, and make it squeal, and as soon as it does apply the brake gently with your left foot. If the squealing stops instantly and stays stopped while the brake is on, you have an answer.

Suggest to the dealer that you are not happy about the brake caliper pistons being properly free in their bores and ask what they are going to do about it.

As a DIY fix, try taking the wheels off, clean the crap off around the pads, take out the pads, clean the pistons, push them back, fit new pads (why not?) with copper grease on their backs and push the pistons back out with the brake pedal. Works most times, and you find out quickly if you do have a stuck caliper piston.

I have a squealing sound from my disco, it was the backing plate behind the disc it was rubbing against the disk, fixed it with a big flat head screwdriver and hammer, well bent it away from discs:D

Yep, and small stones can get caught between the crap-plate and the disc too.

He can check all that when he hoicks the wheel off to have a look.

I made my suggestion because of the way he describes what sets the noise going. Classic description of what I said.
