Hi
i have looked on the searches but seem to be the cable snapping at the handle end and mine still has a handle it's just on the floor....
pushing on bonnet and pulling cable just lengthened the cable in footwell too.
I pulled the bonnet release cable and it released the bonnet catch, but just kept on coming. i now have about 3 foot of cable in passenger footwell, and no way of opening the bonnet.
when i try the cable just keeps pulling through, how long is this bloody thing?
have priced up a new cable, but need to be able to open the bonnet to fit it.
all i can get from husband is oooh, it's a tough job, will need to have both cars next to each othet, big job, nightmare, etc but no bloody closer to fixing it.
Sally drinks power steering fluid and oil so i am going to need to get under the bonnet at some point soon. (luckily topped it all up when it pulled as i knew it would take a while to get fixed)
husband is too busy fitting new bumpers to his disco to fix mine, so i am willing to have a go. he even rang our local land rover spares place to get himself a pretty new bumper and didn't ask about a new cable for mine...grrr! selfish git!lol
so can anyone help me?
my plan is to get the bonnet up and then use the old cable casing to pull new cable and casing through.

thanks in advance, any advice will be really appreciated

sarah

USE a long screwdriver thro radiator grille or a wire coat hanger with a loop in the end to hook the release lever and pull it,hey presto bonnet open, simples.
your new cable will just be an inner cable so squirt oil down cable from inside end then feed the new cable thro and clamp it at the lever end, bingo sorted, happy new cable
if hubby wont help ,can only suggest ,no grub, stop his tap, make him sleep with dog,let his tyres, down, murder, divorce ect .hope this helps dave

Yeah it's pretty easy to see through the grill.

If you have to rip out/destroy the grill, you can get another on eBay for about 15 quid.

There is a lever in there somewhere with a little screw clamp thingy, and probably a bit of broken cable in it.

Lever this to the passenger side of the car, as above, and it should open.

If you need to help it by pulling up the bonnet, only pull from the far drivers corner. This helps move the shaft away from the catch plate, easing bonnet release.

Good luck!

thank you!
done it, although when we actually got it out, it hadn't snapped, just pulled through, some numpty hadn't tightened the bit that grips it, so had slowy pulled through each time it was used....
got new grill for £10 in the end, as i sent husband and we (as a family) seem to single handedly payroll the staff at the local landy place:D
she now has a black front end rather than the grey sun bleached one we're used to

that'll be the next time i yank the bloody thing out..... have been told to pretend i'm a girl and BE GENTLE...
GENTLE? WtF?? that's why i drive a landy, i don't DO gentle:D

As an aside to this story, and because I feel like it I will tell you a story about sun bleached front grills. My mate "Big Dave " has a P38 RR and his grill had gone grey in the sun. He saw a thing on U tube about rubbing it with peanut butter to restore it. So he blows into my farm looking to see if I had any. By accident I had some left by a guy months ago who got it from Gibralter. Happy as Larry he is off. Rubs his grill with the peanut butter and it looks the dogs !! Even sends my a photo. That night the wild dogs ripped up his grill, front bumper, number plate and his fan. Looking for the food. 2k to repair it..!! Ten quid was a good deal.
