has been baffling me for a while.
drives great no oli water mix.
i woundered if i had got the oil cooler pipes crossed just cannot under stand were the oil is going using a bout half a ltr a week, no pooles on the floor starts great no miss firing.
any body help/
thinking of stripping down again .but dont want to unless i have to/
if it was buring oil i would have smoke out the back.any body come across this before.
thanks

Getting Deja Vu here :D

Did we not go through this before?

Our rebuild has done just over 7000 miles now, and uses about a litre every 2500 miles or so, running on LPG most of the time. As the LPG is dryer and hotter, I'd expect a higher oil usage than when on petrol.

If you haven't got any leaks, it has to be burning it, either through the valve guide seals and into the inlets or up past the rings, there's no other way to get into the combustion chamber.

pete thanks for the email.
i just cannot see the oil getting into the combustion side, because there is no smoke.
i will be breaking it down again and will replace the oil stem seals.
also want to rering and change the big end and main bearings.
also will do the rear oilseal while i am at it.
still confusing me as to why there is no oil smoke out the back.

thanks dave

I don't recall ever seeing a V8 smoke that much, if at all, so your consumption issue is even more strange.

I suppose you haven't got the wrong dipstick on the engine by any chance? Overfilling could see oil blown out of the exhaust, but you'd have a trail of white smoke behind you if it was that bad.

Peter

as you have cats they mask the burning oil has it been for a mot recently if it is high hydrocarbons then this will prove oil burning
