I know you can retro fit the GEMS efi from a 4.0 to a 3.9.
The 4.0 is pretty much a 3.9 with a different front cover and a serpentine belt.
Have you tried asking this in the V8 section. Most of the V8 gurus probably hang around in there.

Its not that easy,on the 3.9 engine there is no mounting plate for the crankshaft position sensor.Or the threaded holes for the knock sensors.
