Urrrghhhh...I am having an utter disaster with my gearbox woes on my 110, and I'll update the thread when the whole sorry story is over. However right now I have a few pressing questions...

1-Will a transfer box off a Disco 2 fit my LT77/200Tdi/110 truck?
2-Is the gear ratio likely to be the desired 1.22 (ish) or were there other variants by the time the Disco 2 came along (this is in case the sticker is missing)
3-I know some D2s didn't have diff lock. Am I right in saying if the diff lock stud is present, then it has diff lock?
4-Am I right in saying the only conversion work it needs is the mount, drill/tap handbrake bracket and swap the handbrake drum and linkage over?

Thanks in advance!

1.22:1 in a 110 is only desired if you want a slow sluggish vehicle with crap performance. Might be ok if you stick to 205 or 6.00 tyres. Any bigger and no.

Erm, you sure about that? Ashcroft recommend it as an upgrade, and my current (knackered) tfr box is a 1.22 and the truck goes really well with it. I appreciate if I stick massive wheels on or tow really really heavy things with it might be over geared, but I really like how it drives currently. It's quicker than my missus' Freelander TD4 and it towed 2.5t with ease the other day...

disco box will fit you do need to swap hand brake bracket and drill 2 m8 holes you will probably need to swap speedo drive too,d2 boxes will fit but have no speedo option so are not suitable

Oh no...you're joking :-(

So basically after my mystery noise I got the main box rebuilt only to be told the issue was was unlikely to have been the main box (to be clear, I was told this before the work commenced but a few things weren't 100% so I got it done anyway)

...and I then found out the transfer box was knackered...partly because of what had been flying around in the bottom of it for ages, and partly due to my own stupid fault...

...then I sourced another tfr box from a breaker...spent a few hours transferring bits over...last job, new copper washer on the drain plug, and I found out the fecking case thread is stripped and he magnet snapped off inside...

...breaker has offered me a Disco 2 box, I asked would it fit, has it got diff lock...I'm supposed to be picking it up first thing tomorrow and I desperately need the truck for the end of the weekend...and now this :-(

Seriously just loosing the will to live on this one now! :-(

There's not much to a transfer box - I suspect you will be able to make one to suit your needs from the two, or just helicoil the case? Chin up!

Well they would, they are a business looking to sell stuff. And a recommendation doesn't mean it's the best thing to do.

, and my current (knackered) tfr box is a 1.22
Question. If you have a 1.2 already, how is changing to a 1.2 an upgrade?

Had the transfer box already been changed on yours? As it wouldn't have been a 1.2 as standard, or was it a typo?

If it goes ok, then fine. Stick with it, just make sure you really do have a 1.2 now though, if that is your benchmark.

As for performance, I would be surprised and amazed if it really was quicker than a Td4 Freelander. Unless the FL is auto. Have you actually tried them against each other? I admit a Tdi might feel more punchy than a Td4, but that's not the same thing.
