Hi All

Keep getting warning lights on dash, off road ride hight and the self level light, when you switch the ignition on they go off as normal then come back on, if you leave it for about 30 seconds they go off, and if you start it up they go off, this really only happen when left a long time, been looking at the treads for air bag and compressors and have yet to try the soapy water, but theres no sign of leaks, i have just had all fualt codes taken off and just changed the glow plug (this is when it started)

Any help would be greatly appricated

How old is the motor? my guess would be perished rear air bags. ABout £65 a side should be replaced every 5 years any ways hence askign how old th emotor is.

They perish inthe fold over bit and hundred of tiny holes, there is no sign of a leak until you take them off an blow them up with a compressor and then you see the rush of air.

its a 2000 ES TD5, i've pumped them up to full ride hight and done the liquid test but couldn't see any bubbles.... dosn't seem to go down but have measured the hight and will check again later to see if its gone down

found out what it was, checked the ride height at full extent that was 34" when i lowered it and the N/S was 32" and the O/S was 33" played with the height sensor and it lowered, and now the lights are out, job done

Change the ride hight sensor on O/S and have the ride height calabrated, and the lights are still on and it as dropped 1.5" on nr side, going to change ride height sensor on N/S to see if this makes a differance, if not i think its time to change a bag....

Update on the lights, i forgot that i had posted this so sorry....

The lights are still on, and ive changed everything, including the air pump, but the pipes and ECU, i did disconect the glow plugs and then the warning lights on dash (its the off road ride hight and the self level lights) go out as normal and don't come back on, plugged the glow plugs back in and the lights come back on... i think this is one of those Disco things......

So you have messed around with it since march, replaced parts that have made no difference.....
Now you are fed up with it,Land Rovers are cr-p,etc,etc. A half hour diagnostic session by someone with the right kit and knowledge would have pinpointed the fault back in March, you could have then rectified the fault and gone on.

Its been on diagnostic quite a few times, but never brings up a fault for that, and ive never said Land rovers are c**p, yes they all have problems and some you have to live with, and i'm not fed up with it, but i would like a Disco that doesn't have something wrong with it, hence the reason i asked the question

You missed the point I didnt make clear enough,I get fed up with people moaning about their cars,it does not have to have unsolveable problems. What diagnostic kit was used ? DII Slabs ecu's are more than happy to log faults,if it is checked out properly and there are no faults logged then its possibly a faulty ecu.Was it a LR specialist, main dealer or just an ordinary garage that looked at it ?

1st of all i'm not moaning, 2nd my Disco is maintained by JSF Norwich, whom are land rover specailists, they have 2 differents diagnostic tablets, one is a T4 computer and the other is an autologic diagnostic system, both of which are land rover deadicated, and 3rd i have 2 ECU's, one is standard and the other as a Autologic remap. It as also had 2 new wheel bearings (both O/S) a new rad, large TD5 alive intercooler, new manifold plus many other parts, and do you know i don't care, i love my disco, but i would still like it to have no faults, i thought that was the idea of these post, to ask question and get answers..... am i wrong

Bloody eldritch.....do the warning lights go off if the engine is started and u disconnect the glowplugs then, while engine is running?

i've looked to the diagram, there is no connection between the glowplugs and the SLS warning lamps....just that the lamps for the glow plugs and for ORM are close to each other on the dash:confused:.

the guys with T4 must run circuit tests for those warning lamps, if it's some strange short circuit it'll show itself then i think

Ok, the right equipment is being used - so now its information needs to be properly used, that is down to the individual using it.The other thing you need to understand is that the spare ecu you have is the Storm ecu which controls the engine,NOT the Slabs ecu which deals with the abs and sls,(Self levelling suspension)
DII Slabs faults are well known and are ALL repairable,my suggestion is that you take it somewhere else.

Thanks for the replies

Yes the lights do go off when the engine is started, they normally only come on when the glow plug light comes on, and if you disconnect the plugs they don't come on at all.

I'll take your advise 8inaV about taking it some were else, might as well bite the bullet and take it to the stealership in Norwich to see if they can find anything, when I can get it in, normally about a 2 week wait

Decided to buy myself a hawkeye to see if I can do it, 3 weeks to get it into the stealership, and they want £90+vat to have a look:(

That was a good decision....it'll save lots of money and nervs in the future....u can run circuit tests for the warning lamps with it too

Hi all,

Just to keep anyone who is interested up to date, I got my Hawkeye plugged it in and had 6 different faults, after clearing them I was left with 3:

3018 coolant temp high fault logged

3034 coolant temp fault active

3174 fault detected with auto box

Changed the temp switch, but as made no difference, I do have a problem with the gearbox holding on to 1st gear, which is in the garage for yet another oil change, but I did notice on live date that it reads my transfer box as low when it is in high and high when in low! Would that cause fault 3174?:(

I now have no idea were to go from here so any help would be greatly appreciated:confused:

Sierrafery - if you read this I have read on other posts that you have a list of codes any chance I could get a copy please:)
