Hi All,

I've done a search on previous threads but couldn't find anything similar...so here it goes!!

I have a whining/buzzing noise that appears from 20 mph onwards. The noise is speed related and is still present if the car is in neutral. The noise sounds as though its coming from the passenger foot well area.

I've done/checked the following

1. UJ's don't appear to have any play and I've re greased
2. T/F Box had oil changed
3. Auto gearbox & torque convertor changed in May
4. Had wheel bearings checked & OK

Any suggestions as I've taken it to a Landy Specialist and they could hear the noise but didn't know what it was.

Thanks

is it worse going round a corner ,different on power or overrun ,does it do it with t/box in neutral and run up through gears

The noise stays the same whilst corning/turning...as long as I'm going faster than 20mph it can be heard. As for the t/box my car is a 2003 td5 Auto and i can only select high or low range...so not sure how I'd get t/box in neutral whilst driving, unless I'm being stupid?

As for the tyres it's too high pitched.....I've had worn tyres in the past and that noise to me is more of a rumble. The noise is more whining/buzzing.

Thanks

t/box will go into neutral as any other lt230s by putting lever in the middle try with foot on the clutch cable may reduce detent feeling

not in putting t/box in neutral autos can and often have a whine at higher revs ,and i have seen broken epicyclic gear carriers in autos ,but just trying to see if noise is transmission or axle prop related, draining a cupfull of oil out of axles or boxes can often help determine condition ,ie colour ,metal sheen or debris

Just tried your suggestion

Gearbox in neutral = noise still there
T/box in neutral = noise gone

However I want test again this evening when the roads are quiter so I get a better run at it.

Does that mean t/box problem?

Just tried again now the roads are a little quieter. The noise does go away when gearbox in neutral and t/box in neutral.
