I dropped the rear double seat down for a trip to the tip and the base wont lock down allowing the backrest to lock in. I've had the disco for 2 months and this is the first time i've had the seat folded foreward.
I've taken the seat side cover off and can see that the spring is a bit stretched, but not sure if its that or the cable that has caused the problem.
looks like i'm going to have to take off the seat base cover to see how the locking mechanism works. Spring/cable camber system.

Anyone got any info on this problem.

Thankyou,
Paul

I've got the same vehicle and yes, it can be very fussy about locking down its rear seats! The slightest obstruction, even a bit of 'rubbish' that gets in the way of the seat will ensure it refuses to lock down, so check the floor 'locking-down anchor point' and the surrounding area to make sure they are totally free from 'bits', papers etc. I have never had to resought to taking the mechanism apart; when the floor is clean the seat locks perfectly.

I've had the base cover off and found it full of kids crayons, pens, sweet wrappers.
It looks like the spring is a bit stretched, hindering the lock down mechanism.
Going to get one later and try to sort it again.

Well I've tried a new spring, no luck, its a problem with the backrest mechanism.
Will try again tomorrow.

You are making sure that you drop it down BEFORE trying to raise the back? It should lock in place at the bottom with the back folded down, then you raise the back and lock that in place at the top. You should be able to do both sides separately.

The base locks in with the back folded down, but the back wont lock into place. Its the double seat thats the problem.
The base rear strops are in the bottom position and the back will raise but not lock in, leaving the top release catch staying up with the red bit showing. There must be some sort of linkage between base and back that allows the seat hinge to lock in position. I'm thinking the spring loaded camber bar where the back release cable is attached to.

Its a bu**er.

Finally got it sorted after replacing back rest release cable and camber spring.
It was a piece of shiney black plastic deep inside the mechanism that was stopping the catch and sear from locking together.
Just got to put all the covers on now, but its raining hard now.

What a relief, only 4 weeks MOT left, still got a few jobs left to do.:)
