Hi folks!
I hope you can help me solve a problem. My 04 disco 2 is leaking oil, the underside of the bellhousing is covered with oil. I have checked the block and bellhousing top which are spotless.

The leak is nowhere near the transfer box. Due in for a chassis steam in a few days as i cant see where its coming from.

Looks fairly normal to me. Mines always "leaked" everything from everywhere and has had an oily undercarriage forever. Have you checked levels to see if anything is actually low on oil?
A little oil goes a long way, I wouldn't be too bothered myself.

That puts my mind at rest. I wasnt to worried about it there were a few drops on the drive each night. I kept checking the engine level which was full however was not sure about the box. Its been serviced today with another 3L of MTF 94 so should be good for another while. I will get to the bottom of the leak and post further pictures.

Do you know much about the modified oil breather and whether the issue was sorted on the 03-04's?

The garage touched on this when It was in for service.

And if it stops leaking, it's run out...

As long as everything oily is "serviced" regularly (ie checked/changed when it should be) you'll be fine. (Eg engine, 2 x diffs, transfer and gear boxes at least)

Sorry I don't know about the modified oil breathers.

Put money on it being the rocker cover gasket, replace both it and all the rubber 'top hat grommets' that help keep the rocker cover sealed down. Make sure you get the later type gasket as yours is EU3 engine.

Rocker cover looks spotless, had all the covers off.

Shes had a good chassis clean today (what i mean by that is a very inexperienced idiot local to me who thought it was ok to pressure wash my engine without covering anything then try charge me £40)

Iv narrowed it down to between the gearbox and bellhousing. Very slow oil leak nothing to worry about!
