Disco 2 Not Starting

Hi all -
Messaging from Australia, have owned my 1999 V8 D2 for about 6 months and has been a dream for commuting to work in the country and back etc. However, the other day it became immobilised, I believe due to my fob not working. The central locking system stopped responding, and with the key turning in the ignition I only get lights and a whirring noise. (see attached)
I went through the procedure of entering the EKA code, was rewarded with 2 beeps and could get access to the car without the alarm going off. Weirdly, the alarm light didn't change after 5 minutes and just continued flashing rapidly until opening the door. Tried this multiple times with no change.

From trawling similar forums I thought that this would at least allow me to start the car, even without a working fob. To clarify, the fob visually seems to work, light comes on when pressed and have tested the battery and has voltage. Entering the car after the EKA code, and trying to turn the key in the ignition, I get the same response as above and the alarm light goes a solid red. Looking for some help, vehicle is currently stranded so would be great to find a solution without an expensive tow. Car was working perfectly beforehand and all fuses and battery have been tested and seem fine.

Apologies if a repeat, but I haven't seen a post with this exact issue.

Welcome to the forum.
Try leaving the key in the ignition for 7-10 minutes in position 2 and pressing the black button of the inertia switch located on the firewall in the engine bay then try to start.
If that doesn’t work you’ll need a LR specific diagnostic tool to read the fault codes and/or sync the BCU with the ECU.

All sounds similar to my recent issues, which aren’t resolved fully as yet as I haven’t tried renewing the receiver in the roof space yet. I didn’t have a noise when I turned the key though. As a first suggestion, have you checked the condition of your battery??

I will try leaving the key in ignition and finding the inertia switch, haven't tried that yet so thanks for the suggestion.

@meego good luck with yours, the noise is like a faint whirring that seems to come from behind the steering column somewhere, but it goes when I turn to they key past position 2. RAA came to the car and he disconnected the battery overnight, but I reconnected it in the morning to no change but I did test the voltage and all seems normal.

Got it started today -

Not sure if the inertia button was the 'key' or not, it seemed to trigger the hazard lights coming on no matter. But then I locked and re entered the EKA, and didn't wait the 5 minutes but jumped in straight away and she started up.
