disco 2 intermittent starter

g,day all, having a starting my y reg disco,most times it will start straight away, other times i turn the key wait for the glow plug light to extinguish and nothing happens no turnover or anything. I some times hear as if the fuel pump is running then nothing. It seems if i leave the ignition switched on for about 1min she will start. have done plenty of searches but nothing seems to be the same problem. Any help would be most welcome. ps would a fuel pump problem stop the engine turning over? Many thanks Dave

Sounds like starter giving up.

Check the lucar connector on the solenoid spade connection cos it used to get loose
