hello all, my 2001 disco started ok one morning and after a 3 mile drive was stopped and then wouldnt start after about an hour, could tell it was starved of fuel and as the fuel gauge has been reading a bit high for last couple of months i just assumed it had emptied the tank. Filled up with jerry can, purged system and all was fine again, went to local garage and put £60 more fuel in so plenty in tank . 2 days later engine died after about a mile of driving. Changed fuel filter and bled system again but would only last about a mile before stopping. Have since changed fuel pump but its still doing the same. Am i not purging system correctly (I turn ignition on and wait bout 3 mins then press accelerator pedal to bottom and turn it over till she starts) or is it going to be the fpr?

thanks, ste

I turn the ignition on to position 2. Pump the accelerator 5 times. The engine management light will flash. Wait for this to stop flashing. Start the car with accelerator flat down - all of course in neutral.
Whilst you are purging , go to the back of the car or see if any fuel is leaking from the filter. Hope this helps.

if it was the injector seals then why does it run fine for a mile or so and then just die? Its as if its getting starved of fuel! When it stops,if i wait a couple of mins for it to purge itself of air it will start and run fine again for another mile then dies!
Will have a good look round this morn for any leaks or signs of dampness

I would put my money on injector seals . air gets forced out of the chamber and into the fuel system and after a while the pump can't cope with it . put a set of genuine washers and seals in it and I'll be surprised if that doesn't fix it unless its killed the new pump . make sure injector seats are clean in the head and get the carbon off the injector where the copper washer sits . washers and seals are about 35 quid . check for oil in harness while you have the top off it and rubber rocker cover seal should reuse as long as it doesn't leak to start with

Why ask for advice, then question it when it is given?

wasnt questioning just trying to find an easy way to fix!! Apologies if it sounded that way. Have just looked at ecu and there is loads of oil at plug so gonna have to take rocker cover off and replace loom, will do injector seals as well.
thanks for the advice, its much appreciated :)

Oil in the Red plug usually cause rough running. Clean it out by all means but it prob won't make a difference.
I needed injector seals changed a month or so ago. It ran fine, only issue was with starting (no cutting out whilst running though)

i have the feeling that after that everything will be ok... i hope when you say injector seals you mean washers too cos those are the main reason for your symptom ;)

yes meant washers and seals, wasnt running rough before but whilst i've got rocker cover off i may as well change harness too!!! The oil smells ok as far as i can tell but its due for a change next month so will probably do it anyway!
