Disco 2 blowing front window fuses

Hi Guys,

My Disco 2 TD5 blows the front window fuse when I try either front window.

It blows the fuse even with the motors disconnected.

I have checked the motors in the doors and they work fine when powered off a separate battery. I greased the quadrants when I was in among it.

Does anyone have any idea what the fault might be?

chaffed wires. time for the ohm meter and lots of connector finding! have you had the switches in bits and your now trying to raise and lower at the same time?
buy / get hold of a 10A mcb (domestic breaker for a fuse box) and connect some temp wiring so it fits where the fuse goes.
more convenient to reset it when fault finding.
try swapping the rear switches for the fronts, see if the problem moves.
thinkin bout it, the window ecu works on current draw to turn motors off when fully up and down (thats why it bends the frame), so problem may be before ecu. disconnect ecu and see if it still blows fuses / mcb

edit- just realist its d2 td5. i was working on d1 300tdi. not sure of the differences.

Which fuse?..., from the passenger(F29, F34) or the engine compartment(F13)..... it's important for the diagnose.
 
As a matter of fact before the "guessing" or the "reverse lookup" kind of diagnose if u have the possibility plug in a scanner coz the windows circuit is fully covered......at least u'll know(if no fault logged) that is a wiring/short circuit issue.
 
I Would look at the wiring that runs between the door pillar and the door (in the rubber tube / grommet), most likely a break in that, if not a little further inside the passenger footwell where it comes in from the A pillar and goes up to the BCU.

Seen it before, same symptoms

The passenger one in front of the driver's knees.

The winder motors are DEFINITELY OK - I have run them up and down off a separate 12v battery with no trouble at all.

As allways, Mister Panzer is spot on......Open RAVE Electrical Library > Connector Views and check the wiring measuring the pins between the BCU and the implicated fuse or the BCU and the motor...somwhere there is the trouble/short circuit, likely where u've been already directed by the Land Rover heavenly demon(it's a non offending poetic description :D) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Well Done Urban Panzer - I peeled back the rubber cable thing between the A-Pillar and the door, and the wires are in shreds. At least 3 or 4 of them are broken clean apart.

Will have a go at this over the weekend.

Well Done ..... that's what it was. Thanks.

No less than FIVE wires were broken, and another two ready to go.

I soldered them back together, used a little heat shrink, taped up and sprayed with silicone to help it slip around better.

Windows now goes down and up, and no blown fuses!

The broken wires were entirely my own fault.

I should have known better than to open and close the driver's door every time I went somewhere in the car. Fatigue failures of those wires was a certainty because those wires were bent and twisted every time I did that.

My fault.
