I had the autogearbox warning lights come on on my Disco 2 before Christmas on a dark night going up a very steep hill. Thanks to a forum tip I concluded this was voltage related caused by a failing battery. I charged the battery overnight each day during the cold snap and all was fine.

One day I charged it and left the battery disconnected overnight and found it was not much good the next day. So replaced the battery on Saturday and checked voltage output from the alternator. At the battery I get 14.2 volts no load and 14.1 volts with AC/lights and heated seats on dropping to 13.9 volts with the addition of both heated seats.

1) Does the output seem OK as presumed?

Having set off on a 2 hour trip to a 50th party with family and the dog the lights came back on after 1.5 hours putting the autobox into limp home mode. 3 resets later (stop and restart vehicle) we made it to our destination. I then arranged a ride home on a recovery truck for today.

I have been searching for a supplier who has a Nanocom in stock. I have emailed distributors in the UK and tried all their weblinks. One firm has them on back order for Feb so seems like there is a supply issue.

2) Anyone know a supplier with one in stock?

3) I did notice one of the relays the rear right hand one in the fuseboard adjacent the coolant level YWB10110 (Black with a green stripe) is clicking every 2-3 mins with the igntion off. Anyone know what this circuit feeds?

Any help gratefully received.:)

OK, here you go :)

1) Yeah, personally that sounds fine to me - the voltage will drop slightly with the more things you turn on - the heated seats pull quite a hefty current so a drop of 0.2V isn't too bad.

2) devon4x4.com had them in a month or two back when I bought mine - worth a check.

3) Check out the RAVE cd - google for download links - it has full circuit diagrams and should help to answer your question.

I do think the cause of your problem will be the XYZ switch on the autobox. There are two things to consider. Firstly these switches are notorious for failing due to water ingress after all they are in a hostile situation hanging off the side of the gearbox and obviously in a pretty big splash zone. After time the casing on the switch distorts due to the heat of the gearbox. The second bit of bad news is that the outlet for the aircon / climate control condensation drain pipes is directly above the connector for the XYZ switch, a real bad design fault which LR dealers are aware of, it was the subject of a technical bulletin. So, undo the connector (a right barsteward) and clean up thoughly and use electrical grease on the contacts and around the shell of the connector. Put it back together and tie wrap to the gear selector cable which puuls it to the side of the drains. Do a test drive to ensure all is OK, and then re-dismantle as previous and slide about 150mm length of heatshrink tubing along the cable. Re-connect the connector, slide along the heatshrink tubing and shrink into place using heat, I use the heat from a soldering iron which when placed hearby is enough the affect the tubing. Once again tiewrap to the gear selector cable. This should sort your problem, it did mine.
