Disco 2 04 td5 first gear

Hi all, i'm having a problem selecting first gear, most of the time i have to put it in second gear first before i can get it into first, the rest of the gears are fine. Any ideas, thanks.

When was the gearbox oil last changed? The Disco 2 gearbox is a tad fussy about the oil, age and quality. The correct grade of oil is MTF 94.

I've only had it twelve months and not got round to change the gear box oil yet.
