So my new stereo doesn't seem to work. I've connected it to my Dad's land rover and it works on his so there is an issue with my wiring somewhere... Fuses are all okay, infact the whole cars fuses are okay.

Long story short my interior light and stereo do not work for some reason, don't know if they are related or not but I'm thinking of doing a permanent live feed to bypass any issues that are elsewhere.

The live feed will be coming from a new 10 way fuse box that I have wired in under the dash. That's connected to the battery with a negative bus bar besides it that goes back to the battery negative. That all works, and I have wired in my boost gauge from this with no issues. I'm yet to install a relay onto the positive lead that feeds the fusebox and then onto a switch, that way I can isolate everything from power if need be for whatever reason. This means I can get into the car and start the engine, then switch on all my accessories from a separate switch or not have the engine running at all and no ignition and switch everything on as and when needed. To recap, there will be a master switch/relay to start the power for everything, and then everything there after bar the boost gauge and radio will have a separate switch.

So all I believe I need to do is run a positive wire to the positive wire that goes into the stereo, but I'm not sure what one that is. Can't find a wiring diagram which states what wire is what and the colour of it. I THINK that it's the blue/yellow ish coloured wire from what I have read but I could be wrong. I am an armature still learning about car wiring so any help is appreciated.

Main reason for the live feed is that parts of my wiring loom have been messed with in the past and I don't want to mess with it anymore, just rather bypass it and make my own.

I'll try get some pictures when I can if need be.

As you're aware, there are two power feeds to the radio; the switched supply which powers the radio and the permanent supply which maintains those circuits like the channel memory, etc. Both supplies have their own fuses.
The switched supply is fused by F3 (10 Amps) on the main fuse board behind the panel under the steering wheel and the permanent supply which also feeds the clock, alarm, indicator light, interior lights, loadspace lights, trailer lights is fuse F6 (20 Amp) can be found on the satellite number 2 fuse board, that's one or other of the fuse boards attached to either the top or bottom of the main board.
Full details of your fuse board can be found in the owner's handbook. If that has gone missing then you can download a workshop manual which includes the owner's handbook from:-

Yep, both of those fuses are intact. My indicators work, my clock has a backlight but no numbers (probably the display gone) my alarm doesn't work and I don't have a fob, just a door key and an ignition key. Presumably there was an immobilizer issue in the past that a past owner has sorted in a weird way so who knows what's going on there.

Are you saying that you don't know which of the wires coming out of the radio is for the live feed? If that is the case and you don't have a wiring diagram for the radio, I would try googling the make and model of it to see if that gives some guidance.

Yes, I have also tried googling wiring diagrams but nothing seems to show anything of use..

I would still say that you have a problem with or around the 20 amp fuse on the satellite fuse board. The information in RAVE refers to an "indicator light", not the indicators which of course are on a different circuit. The backlight for the clock probably comes from the panel illumination while the clock itself, and its numbers is powered from this 20 amp fuse.
Very often, these blade fuses can be faulty while looking intact. I would suggest that you get a voltmeter out and start looking for +12 volts around the area of that fuse.
All the circuit diagrams on the vehicle are also in RAVE.

Thanks Brian, very useful information.

I'm studying the RAVE manual at the moment looking at the circuit diagrams. Will have a go on the voltmeter later on and see what I get after work. What happens if I'm not showing any volts? Clearly there is a bigger issue in the loom?

If it's about a '95 D1 as appears in your signature's link the feeds for the original plug C230 for low line radio are as in the attachments, LGO=light green/orange, P=purple

Was on that very page reading the same info when I noticed that message haha, so 4 and 7 are the power feeds?

If I remember right on the ISO connector not all of the wires are present. maybe 4/5 of them instead of the 8 available? Can't remember off the top of my head.

Just been doing some googling and have no idea if this is related BUT..

I have intermittent wipers, interior light and a few other bits that other people have issues with when they have a fault with something called the MFU? Could, after all of this, the issue be with the MFU? I'm not sure what one I have, I will have to check, but obviously it will be something like black white or cream from what I have read?

I hate electronics, the so called electronics on the 109 s2a i'm rebuilding are much simpler, i like that more now lol

The MFU is not directly involved in the radio's function, if the feeds and gound are connected as in the scheme to C230 the radio should work so what are you after with that MFU thing in this thread where it's about the radio?

Well it's in this thread as it's my thread and I'm trying to diagnose the issue, I didn't know if the MFU had anything to do with it. Hence why I said I'm not sure if it is related or not, so that's why it's in this thread.

The majority of the circuits in the Disco are turned on and off by switching the ground rather than by switching the supply. For instance, the interior lights have a permanent +12 volts supplied to them, incidentally this supply is via the same fuse as the radio, and the switch functions are achieved by connecting a ground, either by the switch on the light unit itself or in the automatic mode by a ground sent from the multi-function unit (MFU).
Your search on that (in)famous search engine could, if you're not careful start leading you up the garden path. Concentrate on finding the +12 volts supply to the interior lights and the radio.

Ok, i was trying to help you and as being a thread about radio feed i digged in the diagrams to see maybe there's a connection between MFU and radio even though i knew there is not but wasn't sure... if you put it this way i'll just not bother with this anymore albeit when it comes to diagrams i could have helped so good luck with your thread

Alright, I'll try do one thing at a time. Was just a hunch because my poor landy seems to have a multitude of electrical issues. Typical ES model!

No need to get uptight about it, I was thankful for the diagram and the advice but when you say
so what are you after with that MFU thing in this thread where it's about the radio?
it's a bit sarcastic for no reason when I am just trying to contribute to any more information to anyone who wants to help. It's very difficult as it is to convey the information about the issues I have when I'm being honest and saying I'm not good with car electrics, I'm trying to learn but i have always tried to avoid it because of this kinda of problem. I'm just throwing things out there hoping that even a snippet of information will be able to help.

it's a bit sarcastic for no reason...
Sorry if i seemed sarcastic, that was not my intention, it was to push you on the right path as i have some experience with forums and i can tell that if you want to get clear answers and eventually end up with a fix treat each issue separately in dedicated threads starting with exhaustive description of the problem, bringing up different problems in one thread which has other subject will not help you that much.

Alright, thats sorted then :)

Also, I wanna thank you both because I never know the F6 fuse had anything to do with the radio etc. So yeah, basically there wasn't a fuse at all in there!! Could hit myself repeatedly. Had no radio for a year all because of a poxy fuse! I am a monumental idiot.

Clock shows a time, interior light works! All is good.

Thank you all for the help, good bunch.

Ordered a DAB aerial as well as for some reason I don't have a coaxial cable at all in there, part of the reason I wanted a DAB radio as well.
