Apparently not...

Can somebody tell me what the other pipe is for coming out from the sender unit.

Theres the one with the filter on it, then theres another. Both go down through the boot floor and towards the front?

Im now thinking about using something as a tank and not bothering with the sender unit and gauge.

At a guess without looking at it I would say one is a feed and one is a return. See if there is any arrows on the sender at the fuel line joins.
Someone else may correct me!

Now I'm only going off what I can remember from college a thew years ago but I think with a Diesel engine the diesel also acts as a lubricant for the injector pump and what not and it is this excess that goes back to the tank. If u look at the injectors them selfs there is a pipe that goes to each one individually and also a low pressure one that runs along the top joining them together this is for the excess that goes back to the tank.
Like before I may be mistake or not quite 100% right on the facts but it is along those lines! Hope this helps/ makes sense! :)

pump is lubricated by diesel but thats not why you have a return ,you have to have excess and so a return so you allwys have enough diesel especially to accelerate ,plus tdi pumps are self bleeding which requires constant return flow through a restricter to maintain pump feed pressure

Oh yeah that makes more sense thought there would be a more important reason, just couldn't quite remember what it was! Now I know too :) thanks for correcting me :)
