Hi everyone new to the forum and new to landrovers I purchased a 300tdi disco 1 a month or so ago that had been stood a couple years done a load of work on it to get it road worthy and mot’d again.

one of the things were diff lock wasn’t engaging i managed to free off the lincage and thought that was that simple fix.

I went out one evening last week and ended up getting stuck both axles beached i was in low range diff lock but only 1 rear and the opposite front was spinning i then noticed the diff lock light had gone out i then pushed across to the left and held it there and diff lock engaged and seemed to be working only if i held the stick across to the left when putting power on and spinning it did not sound healthy at all asif it was skipping and clonking and shreading gears i eventually got out doing it this way as it was my only choice but its definitely not right and would like to get it sorted any ideas ? Thanks

1. The diff lock lamp illumination or not maybe as simple at the switch is slightly out or adjustment, as a result of you freeing the linkage.

2. The diff lock must have been engaged as both front & rear drive shafts were rotating hence the axel and at least one wheel on each axel turning.

3. The noise that u state is a sign the the diff lock isn’t fully engage, diff lock should not be engaged with wheels slipping…thats spinning, all the info on the correct way to engage & the disengagement is in your owners hand book.
