Disco 1 charging light

Can anyone help please. We went off roading on Sunday and on the way back the ignition/charging light came on. I thought it would be wet somewhere so sprayed all round the alternator with WD40. This did not help. The light goes out on tickover and come on when you rev it strangly. Anyone got any ides please?

Chances are, the alternator is FUCT. Get it checked.

its the alternator... probably just the regulator pack, but easiest just to change the whole thing for a good used one.... some ldv vans used the same one,

How do you rev it strangly? Do yu wrap a rope around the Throttle body?

Thanks for the advise. Just thought I'd ask before spending any brass. And yes I am a Yorkshire man!
