Done a search but couldnt find anything, Has anybody fitted air lockers to thier Disco? if so where they worth it/have you noticed much difference in off road ability for the price? what brand should I go for, were they easy to install?

Only an idea atm but just curious as to what you fellas say.

Yes/yes/yes I went for Ashcroft and yes :)

They make a vast difference if you do serious Offroading you can go so much slower and control'd instead of having to charge things, I bought mine from crown diffs as a complete unit so was a straight exchange, not cheap but well worth it for what I do in mine.

Yes I have ashcroft lockers in my front and rear axles. I also bought them from steve at crown Diffs and would highly recommend him.

They make a huge difference if your a serious off roader. I was constantly breaking standard Diffs and got fed up having to rebuild axles so thought about getting a 4 pin diff setup but having done research the locker wasnt that much more. I bought them fully built up in recon diff units, they come with all genuine bearings etc. well worth the money in my opinion. I think they were £745 each for the fully rebuilt diff plus the compressor which power 2 lockers.

Suspension still helps, the more articulation the more grip. Just think what you could do with both! Rather than one or the other.

hello mate i put special traCKS ON MY DISCOVERY FIRST which made hell of a diffenece then i fitted the locker afterwards which is a ashcroft one yes it does make a difference that extra driving wheel does help but im not sure your feel the extra benift if you were on just mud tyres cheers mike

I hang around with guys that use lockers and trutrac diffs and heres what I see.

Mine is std all the way through still.

tyre choice makes a difference. I stuck to mud tyres (GT Radials) as I wanted the tyres to slip before snapping half shafts and diffs.

My mates went for insa's which are more agressive. Yes they gripped better but that lead to snapped half shafts and diffs when the right foot was planted.

A mate upgraded to pinned diffs and upgraded to 35" tyres (silverstones I believe). He still snapped drive train equipment because thetyres gripped even more.

He then went to HD shafts and still had issues with diffs. Finally he installed lockers all round. Now he can be gentler on his approach and make incredible progress, truely great to see but it doesnt always beat a good driving technique. I havent been left behind all that often in fairness.

Another mate has installed trutrac LSD and uses Insas to great effect.

If youre serious about going off road then lockers are not always necessary but do help prevent damage to the drivetrain because you can be gentler.

On my next project I will be keeping most of the vehicle std but will upgrade to lockers and descent tyres to help me go where I want to go without sacrificing on road ability as I will be running an expedition set up.

hope this helps.
