Does any one know the defender front down pipe part number i should use to remove the cat from my 1998 300tdi auto, i have looked on paddocks site and there seems to be more than one.Or is there a beter place to buy from.

Part no ESR2297 - Paddocks is as good as anywhere.

When you do the job, jack up the front end of the car, on the chassis to give you more working room. You may find that you need to remove a retaining bracket that holds two gearbox oilpipes, to give working room.

i had to cut my old cat in half to get it out with out taking any thing off wich didnt bother as the flexi was blowing, and the fitted fine when i jacked the front end of the chassis up, i got the cat off ebay but when i got it and seen the britpart stick i found i could of got £5 cheaper from paddocks, id also recormend fitting the 300tdi "sports" exhaust sound a lot beefyer and whistles most of the time.

I've just had a de cat pipe fitted to my disco 1. I picked it up at the show in Driffield earlier this month - couldn't resist it at just £15 had it fitted at my local garage. The garage thought that I may now run into Problems having no flexi section and they thought the pipe could fracture and advised me to keep the original section! I was just wondering if anyone had experience of the exhaust fracturing after decatting?

Mine has been on for the past year with no problems. The no flexi pipe is off a Defender, they only put flexi on a Disco to stop the vibration

Good to hear that thnx. I'm keen to get rid of the old pipe Asap - it's taking up too much space in the garage. I've heard that the cat can be recycled for about £25.
