Disc brakes for Series Landies.

Anyone seen Land Rover Monthly, Jan' issue? Page 8, there's a bit of editorial about Rocky Mountain Engineering. They do a comprehensive & apparently fairly simple to fit front disc kit for Series'. Direct replacement, no mods, complete kit even includes the wrenches!

Checked the website www.parabolicsprings.com (some other pretty funky looking stuff on there too) but unfortunately there's no mention of these new kits. They seem to have a UK distributor available on 07854 399124

Anyone heard of these thangs or had any experience of them? I'll call the number during the week & get some more details (like the probably really scary price!) & add to this post then.

Yeah, that ol' Arnold Scharzenegger leg, developed to the full in traffic, does the job, but hey, these babies stop you in a straight line apparently! Strange sounding concept for us Series fools, huh? Fit I's, II's & III's apparently!

No prob' chaps, I'll get some info (bet the price is gonna be scarey tho', it all comes in a wooden crate, erk!) & post it as soon as. Gotta say, the (fairly brief - like not worth buying the mag' unless you were going to anyways) write up looks impressive for both results & simplicity. Hopefully they can email me some stuff so's I can cut & paste it, not a great one for typing!

Check out the post below in the list of similar threads "disc conversion for series Lr" there is contact details there for a conversion using standard LR bits

I know it can be done, but there is an appeal to having a big wooden crate turn up full of nice shiny new bits that don't need refurbing & rebuilding & that cuts out all the sourcing of parts. That said I bet it costs..........To which, sorry been busy all week so haven't called. Will post the price when I get a sec' to call tho'.

Sounds like a good idea but as has been mentioned there will be no doubt the price will hurt.

Nope, sorry all. Bad, busy week (for which read Xmas parties!) & horror or horrors - I had to call the AA out to a hotel I was staying at over the weekend (er, after a party!) to a III with a dead battery. He was a very nice man AND there within 20 minutes! Still felt a **** tho'!

I'll take the number to work tomorrow & give them a call.

If them big ball joint steering jobbys are the same size on the disco and the series, it shouldn't be too much problem swapping them over ... but then there is the splines for the driveshafts as well.

Looks good if a little expensive at Euro850 plus VAT per axle! Guess I'll be sticking with the drums for a while yet then.

Try typing Land Rover disc brake conversion into your search engine. I found three companies offering kits for series Landies. Prices range from around £500 upward. Santana parts may also fit available from Britpart. The more sourcing of parts you are prepared to do the cheaper the conversion gets. Still cannot afford it myself though.
