Checked the oil level this evening and...the dipstick pipe fell off. It has corroded through at the base. It's dark out and I can't see much - anybody know if the pipe is screwed or bolted to the sump or if it's welded on?

thur screwed in. if ah remember right or i could be thinking of a different injun.
can't you just fumble about and feel it or, get yer torch oot?

i thought it was just a tight push fit.
cant really remember now its that long ago since i did one.

Daylight shows it to be a 3/4 inch socket, and both Christian Autos of Kingswood and Land Rover Orphanage of Chippenham have them in stock. Had supposed to be off green laning this morning, but given the weather I didn't particularly miss it anyway!

just bought one and replaced it.£3.40 plus vat =£3.99. Part Number BR1280 Rover Number 541860 and yes it is a screw in type. Mine snapped because of the dipstick touching the side wing. causing vibration and obviously over the 25 years of this caused it to snap at its base

Forgot to say I bought it from Bearmach. Fantastic people to deal with(Personal opinion)
