Not mechanically minded so a mate came round to do/teach me a few things over the weekend (Ta, Ricky if you ever read this).

I have a couple of posts and queries. The front diff oil was nice and clean but the rear was black as pitch. No metal visible.

Does the transfer box put more strain on the rear diff in normal use or is it likely that the front has been replaced prior to my ownership. It's done about 20K over the 5 years I've had it.

Might be EP 120 or 140 put in there to quiet down a noise.

PS. If you have not checked the diff oil for five years shame on you.
