Differential / Axle question - blanking plugs? (pic)

While looking underneath today (do all defender owners develop the habit of looking underneath before going anywhere or if it hasn't been used for a few hours?) I noticed something strange on the rear differential/axle.



There appears to be a metal shaft visible through a hole (A), but no corresponding shaft on the other side (B) where it looks like there is a blanking plug.
Do I have a plug missing? Should I cover up the hole fast, before road crap gets into my drive shafts?

those holes dont go right through into case,they dont need capping,and arent as std

They are for spreading the axle casing when setting up a diff perfectly normal
