I was planning to put my old disco diffs into my series to give it higher gearing (it has a v8 and so no worry about lack of power) until i discovered the disco had 24 and not 10 splines.
Is it possible to put both diffs on the bench and turn the higher ratio disco diff, into one which will accept the series half shafts, and then slot it in, as if i had just got an original disco/range rover 10 spline diff?

Not without some special tools - look here....

Not that many special tools.....altho I guess that depends on what you consider 'special' :p

24 spline diffs are fairly sort after and I expect that the cash from the sale of one 24 spline will net you a couple of 10 spline diffs with change.

An alternative to try and source from late S3 half shafts, they are 24 spline at the diff end. KAM also make a 24 spline HD version of the later S3 half shaft. Maybe worth a phone call.....altho' I'd sit down first ;)

anything other than hammer is a special tool!

think i'll go with the option of tracking down some 10 spline diffs.

What sort of prices have you seen 24 spline diffs go for so I know how much to put them up on ebay for?

Are they? I thought they were 24 at the wheel end, and all Series IIIs were 10 spline at the diff end.

series were never 24 spline at the diff end but 10 spline. 80 on series were 24 spline at the drive flange end.
24 spline diffs were introduced on the change from 200-300 disco and rangey 93-94.
