diff oils

Can somebody please tell me what grade oils should be in both the front and rear diff so I can top mine up

If it's a P38 then it's 75W 90R API GL5 with Texaco as the recomended brand in my handbook, do Texaco still exist?

thought I would ask as a local supplier has told me texaco 85/90

the dealers put 75/90 castrol syntrax in them.

I also used Castrol, but 80W 90. The important bit is that it meets the API GL5 spec. Can't get Texaco products over here and at the time I couldn't find 75W 90R. As it was only a top up, the different grade was not going to make much difference.

so is 85/90 no good?

A bit heavy, more drag, but probably no harm as long as it meets the API GL5 spec

75/90 fully synthetic.

Any reasonable quality EP (extreme pressure) 80 or 90 gear oil will do the job. At one time manufacturers used to recommend using EP 80 in winter and changing it for EP 90 in summer. But with the new multi viscosity oils there is no need to do that. There is no need to go out and buy expensive pay for the label oils. Just make sure the minumum spec required is met or exceeded. This info should be on the can. 85-90 is fine just means it's viscosity is 90 when cold 85 when hot.
