Diff Lock How, What and Where?

Like I said I understand the theory behind a Diff.
I understand in theory how the Diff on a discovery works.
I have owned Russian Military Trucks in the past with 2 LSD, Diff Locks, and 4 wheel drive and RS Turbos with LSD.

What I don't understand yet is what bits are required/used on the discovery to lock the diff.

Its not a question of what it does when its locked. Its a question of how it locks and what happens when I push the lever to the left.

After reading the post by the daddy I decided to go an have a wee look at my diff lock thingy majijjer. Now here goes, it's an 03 Disco 2, Automatic has high/low shift and the sticker says push to the left to engage diff lock (in high or low gear). It wont feking go to the left. Will go back and forwards no problem from low to high but will the bugger left, not on your nelly. It has traction control so does that cancel out the diff lock?

yes, with traction control you have no need for diif lock or so the landrover boffins thought, although i am led to beleive that some of the disco 2 do have the facility still on the gear box but the centre console does not reflect that, but with a little tinkering you can have diff lock if your disco is lucky enough to be one of the ones with it,hope that makes sense, just finished bottle of wine, just reaching for the brandy !!
