you will have to clarify what you are after.
you say diff lock light but mention low ratio, they are different.
first you will not get a light when you engage low ratio.
second if it is diff lock you are speaking of then are you sure you have it, as it was removed from some td5s.

there is no lamp for low ratio.

you may, or may not, have a diff lock fitted... if so you'll have a lamp
you will have traction control... again you'll have a lamp when this kicks in.

As standard the ability to engage the CDL was removed from DSII. This was because LR had introduced traction control so arguing they had eliminated the need for a CDL. In saying this the spigot on the LT230 transfer case remained in place until mid 2001, so there are ways of converting the Hi Low shifter to engage the CDL
(see Ashcroft) URL="http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/part_17.html"]http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/part_17.html[/URL]

There are also electronic solenoid activated conversations (see discoparts) Solenoid Activated Central Diff Lock

So to get to the point, unless you fitted or know that a CDL was fitted to your vehicle, it will never have had one. Also because yours is a 2001 it may be that unless you change the transfer case it wouldn't be able to be converted anyway.

Hope that helps

Jason

There's no low ratio light on a Td5 or a 300 Tdi for that matter. The 300 has a diff lock light which comes on when the transfer box lever is pushed to the left.
Diff locks were only optional on Td5's after about 2002 I think??

If you got a diff lock you got a sticker that says so - I have 03 plate with diff lock (and sticker). Light comes on for diff lock - and stays on for a while after but as you say there is no light for low ratio. Mate has an 03 same spec but no diff lock.

Yep. According to my info the CDL was a £260 option available between Nov 2002 and July 2003.
At £260 I'd have opted for it. I've seen a Td5 stuck with one wheel spinning!

That should not be possible with traction contol. Even with only one wheel with traction, it should put the other 3 brakes on to get the motor moving, which is more than what CDL would do.

You can still have the option Mike, Ashcroft do the kit.

True under normal circumstances, but this particular Td5 had a fault on the TCS!

And I've seen plenty of vehicles with faulty diff locks stuck with one wheel spinning!

Usually through lack of use, shouldn't effect electronics.

Hmmm .... must try mine out on the weekend ... just to be on the safe side of course!!

I put CDL L/H off 93V8 disco on my 2001V8 disco 2. Works great. Had to bend linkage over 1 1/2 to match up.
