hi folks, Just wondered whether anyone else had seen this, and why??

My 300tdi has had several mods by a previous owner, all done well, all extra wiring, reverse warning kit!, cb/ roof lights etc, where all wiring etc has been well hidden and all other mods inc 4"lift, winch bumper, any welding all seem to have been done to a high standard.

HOWEVER, there is a toggle switch mounted on the centre console, which when used, all it does is activate the diff lock light on the dash!?, i have looked, and it uses the red and black wires coming from the transfer box... I just find it very strange as to why go to the bother of fitting a switch when everything else has been done right,, if its only use is to light the diff lock warning bulb?

Question is, has anyone else ever seen this before, and if so, is there another reason behind it?

Might be that the original diff lock switch on the box is fubar'd and to switch it on when the diff is locked as to not forget it so or if there's some additional locker added to warn about that one being active...if the diff lock warning doesnt come on when you lock the diff from the lever it's the first version IMO

Test switch perhaps? So you know you aren't in lock with a blown bulb.
Is the switch on the tbox fitted and working as well?

not sure whether the switch on the box works, guess not, as the toggle switch puts on/off the light whether in lock or not.. I just thought that it seems as much hassle wiring in a new switch as replacing the sender, when you have already pulled the car half to bits!, thanks for your thoughts tho...

Maybe the previous owner was in the process of making an electronic switch for the diff lock using a central locking motor and never got round to finishing it???

Who knows, but is always good to have lots of switches to play with, especially over-head switches

LOL, yeah, could be anything really I guess..

dont really need it, as I know the diff works, and would soon realize if I had left it on when she carried on straight at the first roundabout I get to lol,
