Hit another problem today. I filled both diffs up with new oil. the rear filler plug does not tighten up, it threads right in but just keeps turning. I've had it on and off over the last few months when refurbing axle and its been fine until today.
Any Ideas ??

Sounds like it has stripped the threads. Try a few wraps of PTFE tape and see if it helps.

Must remember to get some tomorrow. If threads are stripped can it be fixed?

Yes it can be fixed, but I would think the easiest way of fixing the problem would be to replace the diff pan. I’m sure you can get new pans for the Salisbury still.

Looks like it may be just the filler plug has lost its stop so winding on, do as suggested and try the front one in it. Easiest thing to try first.

You might have over tightened it and pushed the seat, that the taper sits on, in over.
As said ^^ PTFE, getting thicker towards the outer threads, might be enough for it to tighten.

If that’s the case, will the seat now be loose in the diff housing?

Will give that a go tomorrow Mate. Thanks
Once it’s back on the road I’d check it regularly until your confident it’s not going to vibrate out. I suppose it depends on how tight it feels when you are putting it in too. I was going to suggest a sawn off bolt and washer, but didn’t know what the thread would be. Didn’t know flanged plugs were available. If they’re easy to get, that would be a better bet.
