As I was towing the caravan on holiday a couple of weeks ago there was a faint smell of diesel shortly after setting off and after a peek under the bonnet there was diesel down the side of the head and engine. I carryed on to our destination and upon arriving I had a poke around and found that after removing the spill of pipes that 2 of them had worn thro by rubbing on the sound deadening cover that hadn't been fitted properly. I refited them which made the holes bigger and the leaks a lot worse. I called Paddocks who said none in stock but they would soon have some in and they were £22 per pipe!!! I questioned if the £22 was for all of the pipes but they insisted it was per pipe. Called Craddocks and they said £22.50 for the full set pre cut... thats more like it. Checked on my satnav and there was a Landrover dealership 25 miles away.... hmmm I'll give em a ring just to see. "£2.95 for 1 meter of the spill off pipe but you will have to cut it to the lengths you require sir" was the response from the parts department. 30 minutes later I was there and left with the spill off pipe. Back at the caravan out came the bread knife and 10 minutes later job done and three new spill of pipes. Main stealer??? Landrover £2.95 Paddocks £66!!!!!! Still got a good length of the pipe in my glove box that was left over so if anyone needs a new set I'll do em for £65:D

nice searchin disco bloke ..... someone got the price wrong at paddocks then ..... oh dear ...

I just wasn't prepared to beleive that three material coved rubber hose about 4" long each was going to cost £66. I breifly considered breather pipe but thought that with a constant flow of diesel they would degrade quickly and return little bits of rubber to the fuel tank that would end up cloging the filter and then the pipes would end up failing again shortly after. Well done Landrover :)

I think that sound deadening thing is more trouble than its worth.I drive without mine and dont find it noisey.I had a leak from one of the rear heater hoses that was covered by it.If it isn't fitted you can check everything much easier.

Not a bad idea Danny. Ive already striped all the sound matting out from under the carpet as it was soaking wet and the floor was going rusty. Good rotary wire brush, Hamerite rust beater, carpets back in and jobs a good en. Dont sound any different to me with out it so I dont supose that engine cover will make that much difference either.
