As said the the title, these last few mornings I have had the blowers on the screen and I am getting a smell of diesel inside the freelander. Strangely enough though it only seems to be if I have the blowers on the screen. If I am using the car without the blowers on the screen then it doesn't happen. No FBH in this either as far as I am aware (looked under both wings and nothing there)

It'll be the HP pump that has a slight leak. The pumps can start to leak if the weather gets colder. Mine is slightly leaking at the moment.

Yeah that's what we thought when it happened last year so we stripped down so we could inspect, left it running and not one drop came out. Typical.

Take the top engine cover off and see if the top of the engine is swimming in diesel.

We did last year when it first started smelling and it was bone dry, as was the area around the injectors etc. The only thing I haven't checked is the rear fuel filter (got one here but haven't replaced it yet) but can't see how that could be it with it only coming in when the blower is on the screen.

Forgot to say - it hasnt done it all summer - only just started doing it again.

Thats what my money is on to be honest. But as said, the area looked dry when we took all the covers off. Unless its only a tiny leak and it just stinks haha.

Look down the front of the engine. The HP pump can drip every now and then, which runs down the front of the engine and slowly evaporates off. This is the smell you can smell.
Strangely mine has now stopped leaking for the moment.

Would you believe we stripped top and bottom covers off, had loads of lights in there, white card under the engine bay and ran it for an hour - and still didn't spot anything! has to be the HP though. Think its just going to have to be one those things I keep an eye on and it it gets worse strip it all down again and take the HP pump off this time and give it a once over.

Mr Pond, this thread is about a Td4 diesel high pressure fuel pump leak.
Your car is petrol and doesn't have one.
As already suggested check fuel line connectors and quick fit connectors for leaky O rings.

Thank you for clearing it up for me . I am grateful for the clarification.
