As some allready know I'm fitting a diesel to mi petrol landy, the original layout only has 1 pipe from the tank as a feed, the diesel is gonna also need a return pipe, what material is a diesel landy fuel pipe made from, I was thinking of having to use copper but the original pipe is plastic, a plastic pipe is obviously gonna be a lot easier to put in.
The regulations for diesels aboard pleasure boats is strict, you have to use braided hose for the flexies ans special stamped up copper to the tank.
 
Just put a new line on my 110, tank to pump , apart from the fittings at either end i believe the pipe was plastic, with strategically positioned chaffe guards.
 
there are no regulations as such for road vehicals other than whats been stated,if a pipe goes on a vehicle you just stop the vehical jump out and stand clear while it burns, if a pipe goes on a boat 6miles out at sea what you going to do, burn to death or drown or even worse feed the sharks, use plastic pipe and follow the same route as the feed pipe, if i was doing the job i would remove the sender unit and drill a hole in it and fit the return pipe into that, using proper connecters.
 
be aware that the return pipe should go all the way to the bottom of the tank or you can get air in the fuel
 
yes it does not make sence, but the return pipe always goes to the bottom of the tank, you would think that with positive presure it can not draw air but it does, you can also get ari in thugh the leak off pipes, these go to the top or the fiter
 
I didnt know that, so I need a standpipe with the same overall length as the pickup then.
I had the sender out on the boat a while back ad I'm sure it only had 1 long pipe, doesnt mean to say its correct though does it.
 
i supose you could use one pipe, but i think you will have probs, by returning the fuel to the tank you flush out any air and keep the fuel cool, you must also use the right way in and ot of the filter head to keep a pos presure on the pump, i am asuming you are fitting the series engine
 
Nope, a transit engine, well probably.
The fuel in goes to the lift pump and fuel return comes from the filter pretty much in the same manner as the series diesel does.

remember old minis, they only had 1 petrol pipe and that went right past the exhaust fanimold, if you parked the car for a few minutes and then re-started it the petrol had boiled and ran like a bag of poo till the hot fuel cleared, took me ages to work that out at the time, the series petrol is the same, but the pipe is kept clear of the exhaust so probably will not be subject to the same problem.
