ive just taken the rocker cover off turned her over no movement on the rockers and noticed 1 of the rockers has snapped n bent the valve thing !!!
i take it the belts snapped n gonna cost loads to rebuild ???
 
theres your problem then. if i was you i would be looking for a replacement engine. may be cheaper and less hassle, because if you choose to repair it, you'll need to take the head off and check all the push rods and valves, new rockers, new head gasket, more than likely theres more than 1 valve bent. good luck tho mate

timing belts can let go at any time if they are old not sure about the belt life on a tdi but normally on cars its around 70,000 miles but i know of a few that run as low as 36,000miles and some that are higher

:)As far as I know theyre all bels after the 10j 2.5 na was discontinued.12j I have worked on are belt and all after that Ive seen.In my 2.5TD owners book it says 48000 miles but Iwould be cautious and change at25000.Ive read that they are weakened by oil contamination.Its sure abitch when they break!:doh:

took head off

4 bent push rods
1 broken rocker
and lots and lots of swearing lol

so the to get list is

new rocker
new push rods
head gasket
manifold gasket
rocker cover gasket
timing belt n gaskets
few nuts n circlips
more swearing

is there anything else i need ????
 
get a full set of timing cover bolts at the same time, coz they have a nasty habit of breaking. They will sure to be corroded to hell.

oh - and a timing tool kit - about £40 orf fleabay.
 
im looking on paddocks site and they dont seem to stock
push rods
rocker or rocker assembly
timing cover bolts

i want to order the lot tomoz and have everything to hand for rebuild

any other sites i can have a look at ????

Not wishing todepress you further but if one of your rockers is broken a vlve must have hit apistn pretty hard.The others could be fine.Best of luck:)
 
turn you head upside down with valves facing up. now poor some petrol onto the valves and check if any fluid is getting through. or get a feelar guage and check all round the valve seats. last thing you need is to put it back together and theres fuk all compression pal
 
Just coming at this from a different angle - was this a private sale or from a dealer? Even if it was a private sale, you still have some bargaining power if the vehicle does not match the original advert.
 
just thought id show you wat the dodgy mechanic has done before me !!
