Morning All,
I've bought a new (old) injector pump for a 200tdi. Now that I've taken the old one off just noticed that the pump shaft is keyed but the centre of the pulley isn't? That makes a nonsense of the stick the pin through the hole procedure if it's possible to put the pulley on with the shaft in any position at all.
All I've ever done before is assume that a pump was timed and re-align the holes when changing the timing belt. If you've got a completely new pump how is it possible to begin timing without a keyway in the pulley and woodruff key?
Do I have the wrong pulley?
Did Land Rover make them like this where you just have to remember not to turn the pump shaft ever if you take it off?
Seems a silly way to go about it but I'm not going to be surprised if someone tells me that's how it is.

There is a keeper plate for just this job on the ve pump, 13mm headed bolt, loosen bolt, remove keeper plate and tighten bolt, this lock the shaft solid.
