Diesel P38 radiator baffle or not

This is getting confusing now :)

That was a video of MY marble test on the rad in question filmed yesterday. So I know there is a lack of baffle. What I don't know is if it was there and has broken, or was never there. That would be the most interesting thing - although it wouldn't change the fact that I need a new rad.

A camera would save the effort I suppose as if the baffle had failed, it would be in there. If it was never there, it would be equally obvious. But I don't have one...

If the baffle was there but had broken off it would come out with the marble unless it fell out earlier.
 
Nik the rad has no baffle. Whether it ever had one or it has broken off is beside the point, it is no good to you. It has either never had one or failed, either way it should be warranted. Ring the people you bought it off and tell them what has been said on here. They are storemen they don't have a bloody clue how it is supposed to be configured. They are selling parts that are incorrect and not fit for purpose the ball is in their court. If they argue the toss mention trading standards.

Update: AL Services have been straight on it this morning. Offered to post out a replacement FOC - I'd already ordered a replacement from Island though. No problem, post the old one back for inspection and I'll get a full refund, inc P&P - and possibly some of the labour costs back.

Considering they only found out about it a few hours ago, AL Services support has been spot on so far...

Fingers crossed the replacement from Island is ok :)

I spotted that and wondered if that's what the baffle should be fastened to or if that's what the baffle WAS fastened to and it's now in bits somewhere in my cooling system :)

It would have been an integral part of the plastic moulding, either the mold is badly made or the cavity for the baffle has become blocked and poor quality control means it has not been picked up.

It wasn't a make as such, it was a part number as sold by well known suppliers and this was supplied to the garage by a well known supplier.

The one I fitted last night was a Nissens one supplied by Island 4x4 and that is fine.

Sometime ago I had a Nissens radiator fitted and I did the marble test, but I didn't use a big marble, in fact I used a small M6 nut that came through the other side. This convinced me that the radiator was no good and I replaced it.

Reading this thread prompted me to make a video inspection of the Nissens rad that I still had lying around. What I found out is that it does indeed have a central baffle, but there's a small space between it and the aluminum that's big enough for a small nut to pass through. So, I now believe that the rad is good.

For anyone interested about what the inside of the rad looks like, here's my take at it:

its funny you mention that as I have a nissens I phoned the supplier and asked where they were bought it in bulk ect and waS told they are supplied by Allmakes in bulk , now what confuses me is that nissens are a company of there own are they now supplying Allmakes ?

I didn't check my rad when I installed it as I didn't know about the baffle senecio , but now I have the nano I can see the temp seems high and on checking the rad it seems cool down below copaired to the much higher temp at both hosed and along the complete top .

I have explained the situation to my supplier and if said baffle is missing it will be resolved .
