Hi folks my x reg range rover 2.5 overheated tonight think the head might be cooked had to drive it in limp mode for a few miles to get of duel carriage way my question is apart from gasket what else part wise do I need to replace head I have a good spare in shed

Not sure it was fine ran ok up until I hit duel carriage way and then temp went through the roof and it boiled its tits off oil is ok had new water pump on and stat

Do I need new head bolts when I put it back together possibly be a duff stat I will stick another in it and change the viscous fan and rad with my spare ones it doesn't overheat when ticking over sit all day on tick over temp at middle

New head bolts would be good. And new cam bolt, not totally needed but better safe than sorry. You will need several special tools.

Just had a read up on whats involved in doing the job and I think its beyond my skill set so going to put it in mates garage and pay him the money and get the job done right

Not 100% but going to try a different stat viscous fan and rad if it does it again then I think it most likely to be the head it ticks over great temp gauge sits in the middle it will sit like that for hours no problem I was driving it around for over two hours before it boiled
