Hi guys can I get a sensible answer without being mocked for not knowing something. I'm just about to fit a new viscous fan on my 1997 P38. Is it ok to permanently remove the fan housing or is it there for safety reasons.
Obviously safety is a part, But also airflow when it kicks in it directs the suck more so passes the radiator directly. That's what I was taught
.Again why do youask odd questions in old freds. This could have been a standalone fred and be helpful to others in the future

Why would you not want to refit the cowl / ducting ?

No one is mocking you for lack of knowledge. We are hesitant to help the dodgy ones is all.
You want it for cooling more than anything. If mine broke I would replace it. Without it the air won’t circulate very well.

I have never had a problem changing the fan with the cowl still in place
