Diesel leaking oil from dipstick

I've had exact same problem with 2002 3.0 diesel vogue. My mate went to move it to get at his car, when all of a sudden there was a huge plume of white smoke billowing from the exhaust system but also entering the car through the air vents. When he opened the bonnet there was oil all over the engine and it was squirting out from the dipstick tube. It's a bit of bad timing as I just put it on eBay and it was running fine yesterday

Hi guys can I get a sensible answer without being mocked for not knowing something. I'm just about to fit a new viscous fan on my 1997 P38. Is it ok to permanently remove the fan housing or is it there for safety reasons.

Obviously safety is a part, But also airflow when it kicks in it directs the suck more so passes the radiator directly. That's what I was taught;).
Again why do youask odd questions in old freds. This could have been a standalone fred and be helpful to others in the future:).

Why would you not want to refit the cowl / ducting ?
