just fill my landy up for the first time on biodiesel but when i got home.
when i came out about 30 mins latter the there was a patch of diesel under the tank on looking closer it was coming from a pipe about 3inches long with a jubille clip on either end i was wundering if it was the overflow as i filled the tank right to the top and the fact that it was in the sun or is the pipe some thing else. the land rover i a 300tdi 110 defender and the pipe is on the drivers side just above the chasis

The chemicals that are used (ethanol / methanol) in the removal of glycerine from the vegetable oil to make bio diesel are very corrosive and will rot rubber fuel lines, but I wouldn't have thought it would have eaten away at the pipe that quickly. Is it a rubber or polymer based fuel line?

Usually the age of the vehicle should be a good indication. my 1986 diesel 90 is all plastic (apart from the fuel filler and return pipe), so I would assume that yours being a 300tdi is more than definitely a polymer line. Now, whether or not land rover continued to use a rubber filler pipe and short return pipe on later models like yours I don't know, but it looks like that's what it's pointing towards.

The best thing that you can do is run your 110 for so many miles until the fuel is down a bit and then remove the short fuel return pipe. Examine it and see whether or not it seems to have perished. If that is the case, consider swapping the pipe between the filler neck and the tank as well as the short return pipe in order to prevent them from corroding. Just imagine filling and filling and filling until a puddle emerges under your landy. That will be the worst time to realise that you're pipe has corroded, especially considering fuel prices. Even biodiesel is just as expensive these days (****ty government and greedy companies).

It could just be that the jubilee clip needs tightening a little mind! If the pipe has cracked and hardened (like rubber does over time), the slightest little bit of solvent will make it worse.
