Disco 2 Diesel leak

Noticed a smell of diesel when I got in the car after work and there was a patch of what looked like oil on the os rear behind the tyre. After getting soaked lying in a puddle the leak is not from the fuel filter as i first thought but from the tank but it looks like its coming from somewhere on the top half of the tank. Will I need to drop the tank to find the source of the leek or is there a common fault thats hopefully a cheap easy fix thanks.

Open the metal access hatch below the carpet in between the plastic strips. sounds like a pipe / fitting problem .

To gain access to the top of the fuel pump , it is either the long way ( correct) following this guide or the easy way and cut the carpet at the front of the plastic strips and fold back.

Depends if you take the correct way or the easy way..LOL>

You may find it is a pipe that has worn through , not uncommon on the D2 from what I understand.

Sounds like the green fuel pipe has sprung a leak (part YNI500030K). I managed to get behind the fuel tank and unclip mine. Absolute pain in the rear to do - but easier than dropping a rusty fuel tank full of fuel!

As the others have said you will need to rip the boot apart as well!

Just finished stripping the boot only needed to undo the O/S rear plastics and seat then just bungee the carpet to the N/S rear door handle. Never found any leak on the top or in the area of the pump so will have to drop tank to find out. Is it going to be a nightmare job as I will need to drop the tank find the leak put it back together order the whatever is leaking redrop the tank and fix it but need the disco to get to work.
On a side note how do I get the plug doofer out of the top of the water resevoir I dont want to force it in case it breaks thanks

Hi, It is sounding very much like the green pipe having chaffed through on the chassis. If you do a search you'll see that it can be replaced without dropping the tank. Just tie some string on the end of the old one when you remove it, then pull the new pipe back through. Make sure you don't get any muck in it and put some protection around it to stop it rubbing through again.

If you just need a quick temp fix, and you can find where the pipe has been damaged, just cut it and slide some hose over each end and hose clamp it, I drove 2000 miles with my temp fix and its still there, but obviously fix it properly asap.
