I woke up this morning to a very strong smell of diesel coming from my garage.
When I opened the door the floor was shinning with fuel!!!

I went under the truck and the front end of the tank is wet and dripping fuel.

How hard is it to drop the tank?

Thanks.

Not very hard. Considering how much you paid for that 90 it's a lot of bother isn't it.

Well, I figured I would have to do some work on it.
I am totally satisfied with the vehicle, its such a pleasure to drive and really so far not that difficult to work on.

I have already drained the fuel and will be dropping the tank this afternoon or in the morning depending on time.

Do you think that I should change the in tank pump, do they go bad often?
I will definitely be changing the sender and level sensor.

Thanks.

I thought you got a 300tdi in the end? If it is a 300tdi there isn't an in tank pump.

Yes its a 3ooTDi.
Was reading the Haynes wrongly:doh:

Any recommendations on a fuel tank?

Is there a better one to get?

Thanks

Started taking it out, 2 of the nuts wrung!
Dont know how to get them out.
I guess I will let my mechanic friend have a look.

If you are on about the 2 bolts that go into the captive nuts at the front of the fuel tank, You can get a pry bar in there and wedge the nuts to stop em spinning.;)

If you're ordering a new tank it'll be worth you either ordering the new tank gaurd to go with it or spending time cleaning up and painting your old one.

One of the nuts are on the front bracket and the other is on the rear inside most.
Dont want to put a griner on it because of all the fuel around.
Im hoping my friend will have some ideas.
I will be placing my order tomorrow.
Ive used these guys a couple times, very helpful.

I've used them a couple of times too and had no issues.:)

My mechanic is stopping by my house on my lunch hour to have a look.

Tried to place my order today but you guys have a public holiday FFS!

Machanic got the front bracket loose but the last bolt in the rear of the tank will not budge.
Gonna cut the mount off with a hack saw and weld a new one.
Cant see any other way to get it.

New tank and fittings has arrived along with a new steering damper and park switch for my wipers.

Im gonna lightly sand and re-paint the tank tonight and hioefully install tomorrow.
Steering damper will go in tonight also as long as the old one comes out easily.

I am replacing the damper with a stock LR unit, are these good?

Thanks.

They must be ok cos they fit em as standard.;):D

OK, so I got my parts and painted the new tank, 3 coats.
I also ordered everything that goes with the fuel tank or so I thought.
The tubes on top of the tank that connect to the 2 fuel lines going to the engine are connected to each other via some kinda nut and bolt thingys.
The nut thingys on the tubes that mount to the tank were not on the tubes!!!! FFS why not??
How do I get them fixed on?
It looks like some little brass ring is sweated on the old one but of course the old one is soooo rotten with rust I cannot use it.

Help!

New tank is installed and she started right up.
What a great running engine.
Of course I had to go for a long ride to make sure it was all good.
