I feel a bit bad too be honest - I only bought the thing Tuesday and already this is my second question (and I did search)...

I filled the tank tonight (first click in pump). The gauge before I filled showed just under the 2nd to last notch - it clicked off at 59 litres. When I came back from paying I noticed a pool of fuel under the car so drive home (about a third of a mile) and looked under the car. Fuel was dripping down both sides of the tank at the back. I couldn't really see exactly where from.

I thought it might have been the overflow so went for a 40 mile drive to burn off some fuel but when I returned home the whole underside of the rear was coated in diesel and it was still dripping.

Any idea's chaps?

Sounds like the fuel pump/sender on top of the tank would be the first port of call. It may have recently been replaced and has not been seated correctly or the pipes correctly fitted. The fuel pipes are also prone to rubbing through around that area.

Thanks for the quick replies.

It had been sitting with low fuel since I bought it and I didn't notice any leaks so this would appear to be a problem with a full tank and if the sender's at the top then it would point to what you suggest. I knew I should only have chucked £20 in it! It's a bit late now but I'll also check under the bonnet tomorrow just to make sure there's no leaks there.

Fortunately it's under warranty from the dealer I purchased it from so I'll be giving them a visit tomorrow. Less than 5 days of ownership and I'm already on first name terms with the service manager (had central locking fixed today) :(

Hi chaps, just to bring this to a conclusion... it was the seal on the fuel sender unit - all fixed now :)

Just awaiting delivery of the locating rings which will hopefully sort the wheel wobble at 45mph+ (Range Rover alloys) then we're all systems go!
